Reason to wear a Burlap Dress

The reason I chose to wear a burlap dress to grad is to give much needed help to the St. Martin De Porres Orphanage in the Philippines.

While I would love to join my peers and dress up in a glitzy dress for grad, I feel we are so spoiled as Canadian children and the need to wear that glitzy dress is not important.

St. Martin de Porres Orphanage starting operating in 2002 as a feeding center (soup kitchen) with the vision to help the hopeless street children of the City of Manila.

They had about 50 street children who would came for lunch and dinner every day.

Before these children learned their first prayer, they were hungry, dirty noisy and unruly.

Later in 2002 St. Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen opened its doors for a place for children to stay during the night.

In 2003 the current facility became unhealthy as a shelter and a new facility was needed. A good-hearted coupled donated the land for a new residence and the construction of the house was made possible through donations.  Programs were set up at the new residence to ensure the health and well-being of the children in crises currently, there are about 127 children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old receiving the help they need because of St. Martin de Porres Orphanage.
